has issued a notice announcing its intent to propose regulations regarding the requirements for taxpayers including those in South Florida who want to claim the Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit for home energy audits. Guidance in the notice provides specific requirements to claim the credit as well as the process for conducting the home energy audit. A written report will be required from a Qualified Home Energy Auditor as well as an attestation that the auditor is certified by a Qualified Certification Program. The credit is equal to 30% of the total amount the taxpayer pays during the year for a home energy audit, up to a maximum of $150. The forthcoming proposed regulations would apply to tax years ending after 12/31/22. Taxpayers may rely on the rules described in sections 3 through 6 of the notice until the proposed regulations are issued.
